Message to the Membership

Wouldn’t it be easier if public employees/retirees could just put on a pair of boxing gloves and duke it out with – actually, who or what would it be? Sound absurd? Of course it does!

There is an alternative – attend the SUAA Annual Meeting!

With a 2% increase in the State’s Income Tax there is still a large deficit to overcome. There is no agreement to borrow more money; no agreement to tax more; and there is no agreement to make more budget cuts. While State pension reform and changes to health insurance benefits seem to be at the forefront, is there a way to derail the oncoming legislation? You are invited to come listen to and ask questions of the experts . . .

presidents, legislative and other leaders.

12:45 p.m. Dr. John Peters – Keynote Luncheon Speaker. Dr. Peters is the 11^th President of
of Northern Illinois University. He assumed the presidency in June of 2000. He
has been instrumental in keeping faculty and staff informed about the legislative
issues that are now intruding on their benefits and the welfare of NIU.

1:15 In-depth Panel Discussion about the 97^th General Assembly Session

2:10 Dick Lockhart, Social Engineering; Randy Witter, Cook-Witter, Inc.; Bill Ward,
Home Builders Association; Michael McCreery, Independent Contract Lobbyist;
and possible 4^th member. All panel members are former Speakers of the Third
House. They will be talking about what’s at stake for Illinois; redistricting; the long
election cycle; current General Assembly; and, the 97^th Legislative Session.

If you have not made plans to attend – please do so. It is not too late. We encourage everyone’s participation. Each Chapter needs to have someone in attendance! State Office will pay $.30 per mile for one car from each chapter. Load up – come to Springfield. You will drive away with a tremendous amount of knowledge! Remember knowledge is power!
